Some of these comments show the great confusion and utter disbelief that this issue is common among ordinary runners. Most people believe that walking a kilometer and run one kilometer burns the same number of calories. You know, one kilometer is one kilometer. It sounds reasonable. But not withstand scientific scrutiny of a thorough investigation.
So I thought I would write another blog to clarify the confusion. Fortunately, I count on some help. Researchers at the University of California has published a new article "Walking against Running". It is the best so far, and confirms (at a very high level) data presented in 2005, which were based mainly in this present document. Even better, this group of researchers have included the calories burned after exercise in their calculations. Its the first time.
Something entirely appropriate. At the end of your workout exhausted on the grass, drinking liquid or trough your body continues to burn more calories until it returns to its basal metabolic rate. These calories are "free", but real.
The study subjects were 15 male college students and 15 women, with an average weight of 70 kilos. One day he ran 1.5km tape in 10 minutes, one day walked 1.5km 18:36. After stayed relaxed for 30 minutes, at which point your metabolic rate had returned to normal.

Clearly, running burns more than twice the calories per minute (11.25) to walk (4.78). This difference increases when we consider the afterburner. Besides you always have to add some more of metabolic calorie expenditure. Whenever you want to burn more calories even after the extra, you will increase your running speed.
Finally, I would like to show graphics of burning calories as your body weight. As noted, the above chart only works if you weigh 70kg, which is unlikely. Here's a simple table that allows you to calculate your calorie burn per km and kg.

Well, now some caveats. These estimates are derived from an "average" weight of the subject, be individual variations. In addition, age and gender make a difference, though few. Your weight is by far the biggest determinant of your calorie consumption per kilometer. When you look at burning calories per minute, your pace (speed) also makes a big difference.
These calculations are not accurate. They are good approximations, and much more accurate than the old saying "100 calories are burned per kilometer." Finally, the calculations only apply to walking pace of 18:36 and brokers who make a rate of 6 minutes per kilometer. Run faster or slower does not make you burn more calories per kilometer (but has a big impact on your burning per minute).
Walking is another type of animal movement. Increasing the walking speed increases burning calories per kilometer per minute. In fact, if you walk 8 minutes per kilometer comes a point where about the same calories / km burn than running. If you walk faster 12:30 more calories than running a 6-minute pace per kilometer they are burned. While it is true that most people take to not walk speeding down the street. The pace is rather quiet.
Do what you can to burn as many calories as you possibly can in the exercise and daily life. That is the key to good health and weight. Some people spend brake and go too far, but they are a minority and still is not a public health hazard. I just read an article that estimated that 20 percent of national spending on health United States are due to obesity-related diseases.
